Our Eastvale.com upgrades continue. Last Summer we did the largest site overhaul since the site started in 2002. We retired some older features and added some new ones behind the scenes to ensure the site was more available and ready to grow to meet your needs and desires. And more upgrades are on the way. As a matter of fact there is a poll on the main page looking for which features you want to see return to the site. Take part!
One special announcement is we are looking for a few community groups who want their own free community website for their own group to run and manage under the eastvale.com domain (mygroup.eastvale.com). This is a free service we want to bring to the community - your own site just like the main site, your own email addresses, and even an email list if you like.
Don't need your own site, but want to help run this one, upgrade it, manage it, help it in any way? - please do! It's always been open to the community, and I hope always will be.
Site Features:
Articles: These are YOUR news items posted to the main page of the site. The top few news articles are on the front page. Registered users can post news items and make comments to any posted item. After they have had their time on the front page, they move to the searchable archives where hundreds of articles live.
Forums: An open message board for neighbors to help neighbors and possible new neighbors looking to move into the area. Public and private forums have been available for specific groups like the neighborhood watch, cub scouts, schools, real estate agents or any other local group since 2004. Shopping and dining reviews? Yes - those are there too. What's missing? YOU! Stop by - say hi.
Links: The old link system sadly started breaking down and could not be saved. It will be missed. But don't worry - a new link system is built into the new site ready for your listings. Stop on by and add a link. Why not - it's free!
Banner Ads: We have a banner ad system on the site. And yes, it too is completely free to anyone with a banner. We even had a free banner exchange system on the site before that was underused, so we've gone to a simple banner rotation system now. If you want to take part, just send an email with your banner ad link and the website you want it to go to. Simple as that. But if you REALLY want to spend money on ads, you are welcome to donate to the site to help keep it running. What you pay for a single tank of gasoline will keep the site running for 6 months. Remember - this is a community site - not a money making operation.
Poll: Speak up. Post your opinion by taking part in the polls. Comments are taken on each poll item. Got a question to ask the community? Let us know. We'll run your poll.
Events: Your on-line event calendar for the area. Click the link, pick the day of your event, and add the details. A site moderator will review the event to make sure it is appropriate and then it shows up on the calendar. The top ten events are also shown on the main page of the site. Cost? Free.
Eastvale Map: A live map of the Eastvale area that you can zoom in and out of to help find those Eastvale events, local stores. garage sales, etc.
Downloads: In the past we have used this area to hold event flyers, information from Waste Management, group newsletters, and flyers to help promote the site. The best format to use in this section is .pdf to ensure there are no viruses and that everyone can open the file. And you DO want people to open your files, right? :)
RSS Feed: Add us to your rss newsreader or screensaver to keep up with the latest site happenings.
Gallery: Share your Eastvale pictures here. Eastvale ecards? Photo contest? Landscape ideas? Record breaking pumpkins? Dangerous situations? It's your gallery - but stay tuned for an upgrade here too.
Auction: I have been playing with a secure auction site for a while now, but it needs a bit more work to be functional. But once it is ready, it too will be free for everyone to use. Any programmers out there willing to lend a hand? Or are you all working on secret projects for your own site?
Classifieds: Once a stand alone feature, it has been moved into the forums under the Eastvale Exchange category. Much like the old Eastvale Exchange there are sections for regular classifieds, freebies, and even a section to promote your own services.
As always, your suggestions and help with the site are welcome. This is an open site where anyone can not only post a message, but are invited to bring their own programming skills, design skills, creative ideas, moderation skills and more to the site. Many have offered, few have followed through. Are you up to the task?
