Are you aware of one of the best kept secrets of Norco is the Lake Norconian Club - a 700 acre resort and spa to the rich and famous? The resort where MGM, Disney and other studios held parties? Where several movies were shot? Where the nations first all electric kitchen was installed? Where Duke Kahanamoku gave surfing demonstrations? Where Olympic swimmers and divers trained and set world records? Where cures for TB and polio were perfected once the resort was sold to the Navy for a military hospital and rehabilitation center? Where wheelchair basketball was born? Where the US Navy perfected radar guided weapons?
Want a peek?
Here's the catch. You have to work for it. The Navy is sponsoring a clean up day of this historic site and is asking for your help in maintaining and preserving a piece of national history in our own backyard this Saturday morning, October 3rd from 8 - 12. Wear your work clothes and bring some garden tools (trimmers, shovels, etc) and gloves.
If you wish to go and support this great cause just a few miles down Hamner, please send an email to events@lakenorconianclub.org with the names of all the people who will be going so we can get them to the guard at the gate to allow you in. Please bring a picture ID for everyone attending. Send those emails by Oct 2nd! Hope to see you there. This is a rare and unique chance to get behind the gates, see a part of history, and tell your neighbors "I was there".
